2012 Rolls Royce Phantom Review

Revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, the new Rolls Royce Phantom gets only a few subtle changes, but these changes are made to the right things. The V12 engines remain intact, but the addition of a new 8-speed automatic gearbox and rear differential make it more efficient and even smoother. Not too sure about the styling tweaks though, but hey , we’re nitpicking here.

The real question is, is the new Phantom still the king of all luxury limos, the car that killed Maybach and ate it for breakfast? Well, Autocar goes for a drive in it to find out:

At its heart, every Phantom family car hosts a hand-assembled, naturally aspirated 6.75 litre V12 engine. This sophisticated direct-injection petrol engine develops 531lb ft of torque (720Nm) more than three quarters of which is available at 1,000 rpm. The torque curve remains largely flat between 1,000 and 3,000 rpm – an important prerequisite for effortless city driving – and moves occupants from 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds and onto an electronically limited top speed of 149mph (155mph for Phantom CoupĂ©) where market conditions allow.
