Mercedes has announced the official features of the new sporty versions
of the historic G-Class off-road, namely G63 and G65 AMG 2012. Basically, these
two versions are made from the Mercedes G-Class 2012, recently updated version
of the German off-road, which we have already discussed extensively in recent
days. The three letters, AMG, leave little to the imagination: this code is
devoted only to the sportiest cars in the price of the house of the
three-pointed star. At the time the pictures were released only the Mercedes G63
AMG, but the G65 is not very different from the design of quieter version, so to
speak. But we not only find more power than the old G-Class AMG: there are also
less consumption, achieved by a series of targeted measures. In fact, for the
first time in its 33 year history of the G-Class models made their appearance on
AMG innovative systems such as direct injection gasoline driven jet, the ECO
start / stop and operation of the alternator.
Data Sheet
The Mercedes G63 AMG features a 5.5 liter twin turbo V8 engine that delivers
a maximum power of 544 horses at 5500 revs / min and a torque of 760 Nm between
2000 and 5000 rev / min. Despite the bulk of the medium, its performance is very
interesting: the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 5.4 seconds while top
speed is electronically limited to 210 km / h for a safety issue. Just to make a
comparison with the old G55 AMG KOMPRESSOR (ie the previous high-performance
model), the new G63 AMG boasts 37 more hp and 60 Nm more torque. However,
performance has a price: the average reported for the Mercedes G63 AMG is 13.8
liters per 100 km (equal to 7.2 km / l), while emissions of carbon dioxide
settle on 322 g / km. What then are not even taking into account many of the
type of car we’re talking about: just to once again an example with the previous
G55 AMG, the reduction in consumption is 2.1 liters per 100 km, equivalent to a
saving of 13%.
Part of that is undoubtedly the excellent automatic transmission 7G-TRONIC
seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS, and the rest of the management of the
alternator and the ECO start / stop. The transmission has three driving modes
(Controlled Efficiency, Sport and Manual) and a function ‘automatic shotgun’ in
the transition to a lower gear. Depending on the selected mode the car is
completely different soul, from a comfortable off-road vehicle that does
everything possible to reduce consumption to a very bad thought for almost half
the track and able to give strong emotions to the fans of the genre. And
precisely to the latter, the Mercedes emphasizes that even in terms of sound on
the 5.5 V8 will satisfy the very ear, despite advances in the efficient (it is
Euro 5) that the melody comes from the two dual tailpipes positioned upstream of
the rear wheels on each side are not affected.
The mechanical
Obviously, to cope with such a power calibration of spring / damper buoyancy AMG sports has been adapted in order to be able to ensure a precise guidance and in line with the sportiness of which boasts. To improve the response to vibration but also the acoustic comfort of the Mercedes engineers have adopted a series of measures NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness, measuring the degree of comfort of a vehicle based on the parameters of noise, vibration and harshness): the system supports an improved automatic transmission, transfer case and torque of the engine to reduce vibration and noise. Continuing, the circles and the brakes are completely new: the G63 AMG is equipped as standard with the inevitable unpublished alloy wheels in 5 twin-spoke AMG logo, gray titanium with diamond-cut finish combined with tires 275/50 R 20.On request also available with alloy wheels blacks opaque edge of the ever-effect diamond. The new AMG high-performance brake system can count on brake discs front and rear ventilated and perforated with a diameter of 375 millimeters and 330 millimeters behind the front. The front brakes are then six-piston fixed calipers and rear calipers with a piston.

Specific aesthetic
Obviously all this abundance mechanics can not be accompanied by an aesthetic worth. Aesthetically it fits around the AMG bodystyling complete: for a start in the front we find the new gloss black radiator grille with four chrome accents. The completely new front bumper also has three large air intakes that ensure proper cooling. Obviously the AMG versions receive updates makeover: we find the new bi-xenon headlights with new LED daytime running lights. The side stands out as usual for typical flared fenders, steel platforms and protective side moldings with inserts made from stainless. Copletano all logos ‘V8 BITURBO’ on the front wings and the AMG nameplate on the tailgate.

The Mercedes G65 AMG
Up to now we have spoken only of the G63 AMG, but the real top of the range
car is the new and exclusive Mercedes G65 AMG think it is the most powerful SUVs
in the world. The engine in this case is a big V12 6.0-liter, double charged,
capable of a power of 612 horses between 4300 and 5600 r / min and a maximum
torque of 1000 Nm between 2300 and 4300 rpm / min. The performance is even more
extreme, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.3 seconds and a top speed
of 230 km / h (electronically limited always).
The AMG 6.0 liter V12 biturbo engine is very advanced and is distinguished by
two exhaust gas turbochargers with bigger spiral section, channels the
waste-gate optimized fluid dynamics, multiple power ‘Multi Spark Ignition’ (MSI)
with twelve double ignition coilsand an engine management system more
efficient. As the G63 AMG takes care of transmitting the torque to all four
wheels automatic transmission 7G-TRONIC PLUS AMG SPEEDSHIFT.
Aesthetically, the G65 AMG is distinguished by his sister with a V8 engine
for the chrome grille, alloy wheels, AMG 5-spoke design specific (always with
tires 275/50 R 20) and the lettering ‘V12 BITURBO’ on the mudguards. Inside are
leather and designo Exclusive leather dashboard: on the seats, then there is
also an unusual diamond pattern and the AMG logo printed on the headrests.
