Next VW Beetle Convertible Said to Launch with Several Retro-Flavored Editions

Even though Volkswagen executives have said that the recent E-Bugster Concept shown in Detroit in January and Beijing in April hints at the design of the next Beetle Convertible, our closest look at the open-top model comes from our spy pictures of the camouflaged prototypes.

For the final production variant, we will reportedly have to wait until the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of November (unless it debuts at the Paris Salon this September).

The next bit of information on the new, new Beetle Cabriolet comes from Car&Driver. Citing inside sources from Europe, the magazine says that VW plans to launch at least three special edition versions of the convertible, which will likely play up themes from the past revolving around the '50s, '60s and '70s.

The report is supported by the fact that a couple of weeks ago, VW filed trademark fillings in Europe for those terms, as well as “Fifties,” “Sixties,” and “Seventies.”

These special editions of the Beetle Cabriolet are expected to feature bespoke body and interior colors inspired from a specific era and even whitewall tires.
