Whenever a blockbuster title is about to hit, video game retailers are going
to look for ways to maximize profit off of that popularity. Amazon, GameStop,
and Best Buy are already starting to sing their siren song to the tune of
pre-order bonuses, trying to lock-in sales for Call of Duty: Black Ops
2.
For some consumers, it may be a little early to even start thinking about a
November 13th title launch. But when taking into consideration that its
predecessor, Modern Warfare 3, reportedly sold around 9.3 million on launch
day alone, retailers realize the enthusiasts are already gearing up for its
release. And each retailer wants to make sure they’re the number one pushers for
this “niche” crowd.
Amazon is offering an exclusive Call of Duty: Black Ops
2 digital wallpaper, which will be sent two days after placing your order.
Granted, you can also find it all over the internet today if you Google “Amazon
Black Ops Exclusive Wallpaper.”GameStop, on the other hand offers something a
little more tangible: a two-sided poster and, for PowerUp Rewards Members, a
Modern Warfare 3 Prestige token. According to the company’s site there will
also be three other “waves” of bonus offers that will be unlocked at certain
dates depending on how early you pre-order.Best Buy will throw in a set of Black
Ops 2-branded dog tags with your pre-order.
No doubt gamers will be pleased in knowing that there’s no exclusive content
being thrown up yet, so consumers won’t have to choose between a map pack or
extra story like many did with the Batman Arkham City pre-order
debacle.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be available November 13th, 2012, and
will launch for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 consoles.
