Fiat Viaggio, the sedan for the Chinese market at the Beijing Motor Show 2012

The house of the Lingotto has released the very first pictures and the first official details about the new notchback sedan, the Fiat trip.The new model, we had already anticipated the first features some time ago, has debuted its world premiere during the 2012 Beijing International Auto Show, scheduled from April 23. The Italian sedan will result from the Dodge Dart, the new compact for the American market of the Chrysler Group, and it will be aimed initially at the Chinese market.

The trip, which in Chinese is called Fei Xiang (a term that evokes the concept of flying), is the first major project of Fiat-Chrysler to develop a completely new vehicle: the car has been designed to meet the highest quality standards and safety, but without neglecting the environmental impact. In this way, with a single product ‘global’, one can reduce the cost of production of one side, but on the other the customer will be seen to propose a machine extremely valid.

The new Fiat Sedan Journey wants in a sense creating a sort of revolution in the segment in the Chinese market by offering powerful engines, but fuel efficient, quality and technology, all seasoned with a pleasure that Judas, in the opinion of Turin, should be rewarding.

The characteristics

But we see the true characteristics of the car: as already widely said it is a sedan with four doors and five seats, which is built on the architecture CUSW (Compact Wide U.S.), which today is the most advanced within the Fiat group derived Compact architecture originally developed for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The external dimensions will be better or worse than those of the Dart, with 4679 mm in length, with an overall width of 1850 mm and a pitch of 2708 mm. Unlike the Dart, however, under the hood of the trip will not find the engines of American origin, but the engines from 1.4 liter turbocharged T-Jet manufactured by Fiat, with the two steps from 120 to 150 horses. These two units will be sold in combination with a five-speed manual transmission or an alternative to a modern automatic transmission with double clutch dry DDCT, developed by Fiat Powertrain.

The design

Although clearly deriving from the American cousin to the Dodge brand, Fiat wanted to give some aesthetics to the new sedan with some modifications to the design. To begin with the front slightly change the headlights and bumper, and boasts a new design for the grille and air intakes, the rear, then, have been redesigned headlights (also equipped with LED technology) and was added an unprecedented horizontal chrome plating on the hood of the trunk.The teaser does not show us the aesthetic as a whole, so we do not know if there will be other news: probably the redesigned rear bumper will be compared to that of the Dart. Also inside are expected to change only small details.
